Park warden Jenny Willson is in a dangerous race for answers that could create an irreparable rift in her own organization.
When Park Warden Jenny Willson initiates a covert inquiry into a proposed ski hill in Yoho National Park, she's quickly drawn into a web of political, environmental, and criminal intrigue that threatens to tear apart a small B.C. town. Suddenly, neighbour is pitted against neighbour, friend against friend, and family against family.
After a wolverine researcher dies in a mysterious fire, Willson forms an uneasy alliance with an RCMP corporal and an investigative journalist to expose the truth behind the project. But all is not what it seems. In a showdown involving the ski hill proponent, her own agency, and mysterious political puppeteers, Willson must decide if she's willing to risk her career — and perhaps the lives of herself and those close to her — to reveal what lurks in the shadows.

Park warden Jenny Willson made her debut in 2017's Full Curl?. It turns out that Full Curl was no fluke. Here, in the second installment in the series, Jenny accepts an assignment that takes her from her usual stomping grounds, Alberta's Banff National Park, and reassigns her to British Columbia's Yoho National Park, where the park superintendent seems just a little too eager to grant permission for a wealthy American to build a new ski area. Jenny's covert mission is to find out if there's anything untoward happening behind the scenes. When a wolverine researcher dies under suspicious circumstances, Jenny teams up with an RCMP officer and a journalist to find out what, exactly, is going on at Yoho. The writing is spot-on, the characters are beautifully rendered, and the story is complex without being too convoluted. A fine mystery novel and a series that should be on nightstands of all Nevada Barr fans.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2018, American Library Association.)
